The depression of hydraulic head around a pumping borehole caused by the withdrawal of water.


The cone-shaped area around a borehole that results from the lowering of the water table or piezometric surface by abstraction.

Why is the cone of depression important?

The cone of depression defines the area of influence of a borehole.
