The distance between the static water level and the surface of the cone of depression.

Drawdown is the lowering of the water table or piezometric surface caused by the extraction of groundwater by pumping a borehole(s).

Why is drawdown important?

In general the drawdown should not reach the pump inlet or main water strike (e.g. a horizontal fracture) in a borehole, due to the fact that borehole failure can occur.
