Background to the Stakeholder Engagement component of the Mbombela Municipal Area Water Requirements and Availability Reconciliation Strategy

The purpose of the stakeholder engagement component of the Mbombela Municipal Area Water Requirements and Availability Reconciliation Strategy is to obtain input and buy-in from stakeholders to the Reconciliation Strategy, by raising stakeholder awareness and by facilitating stakeholder consultation and feedback.

The stakeholder engagement component of the Mbombela Reconciliation Strategy will take place at intervals throughout the project, and will include Study Steering Committee and public meetings, as well as the publication of newsletters.

The aim of the stakeholder meetings is to allow DWS and the PSP opportunities to describe to key stakeholders the process and approach being taken towards developing a Water Reconciliation Strategy for the Mbombela Municipal Area; to provide opportunities for consultation, comment and input to the Strategy; and for strengthening the partnership between DWS and key stakeholders.


The stakeholders involved include representatives of ;

  • DWS: Mpumalanga Regional office

  • Validation and Verification (V&V) project

  • Representative nominated by Premier: Mpumalanga

  • Enivronmental Affairs(MDALA: Environment)

  • Department of Agric. Rural Dev. & Land Admin

  • Cooperative Governance and traditional affairs

  • Mpumalanga Provincial Government

  • Inkomati Catchment Management Agency (ICMA)’

  • Mbombela Municipality

  • Ehlanzeni District Municipality

  • Forestry SA

  • House of Traditional Leaders

  • Inkomati Irrigation Forum

  • Land Claims Commission

  • Minerals and Energy

  • Mpumalanga Wetlands Forum

  • Sabie Irrigaiton Board
