PROVINCIAL WORKSHOPS ON THE DRAFT FRAMEWORK FOR THE WATER ALLOCATION REFORM
WAR was declared on 12 April 2005 by the Minister of Water Affairs and
Forestry, Ms Buyelwa Sonjica, at the opening of a National Consultative
Workshop on Water Allocation Reform (WAR) when the Draft
Framework for Water Allocation Reform in South Africa was discussed
by national stakeholders. The draft position paper was developed drawing
on issues raised by stakeholders during the extensive public consultation
process for the National
Water Resource Strategy (NWRS) and during subsequent
processes.
DWAF
would like to provide further opportunities to stakeholders in the
nine provinces to give their inputs and comments on the Draft Framework
for Water Allocation and also to share their experiences, needs and ideas
in seeking approaches for water allocations and the authorisation of
water use. The final date for the submission of comments on the draft
Position Paper for Water Allocation Reform in South Africa is 30 September
2005.
