FORESTRY SECTOR BROAD BASED BLACK ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT (BBBEE) INDABA
Date: 18 April 2005
Venue: Eskom Conference Centre, Midrand
The Indaba, which will bring together at least 200 key role-players
from the sector, will provide a forum for the forestry industry and public
stakeholders to discuss the development of a transformation Charter for
the industry.
The primary objective of the Indaba will be to consider the following:
- The challenges of ensuring that the industry contributes to rural
poverty eradication through BBBEE
- The levels of black ownership and participation in the industry
- Provision and creation of equal opportunities in the industry as
well as the challenge of ensuring that black participation in the
industry is encouraged and supported
The Indaba will provide a good opportunity to discuss the development
of specific targets and programmes to achieve the above-mentioned
objectives and will mark a formal start to a process to develop an
industry charter for the forestry sector.
Nominations have been called for a Steering Committee who will operate
under the auspices of the Minister of Water Affairs and Forestry to
develop a BBBEE Charter. This Steering Committee will be announced after
the Indaba. Nominations close on 18 April 2005.
Nomination forms can be faxed to the
Department at (012) 336 6663 or handed in at the Indaba (registration
