PUBLIC PARTICIPATION INVITED IN MOKOLO RIVER CATCHMENT STUDIES
The Department of Water Affairs and Forestry (DWAF) is responsible for
the management of water resources in South Africa. The Department is
currently conducting various studies in the Mokolo River Catchment. Situated
in the Limpopo Province, the Mokolo River Catchment covers an area of
8 387 km². The catchment stretches from the Waterberg Mountains
through the upper reaches of the Sand River, includes the Mokolo Dam
and a number of smaller tributaries that join the main Mokolo River up
to its confluence with the Limpopo River. The aim of the studies
is to better understand the current water use and to ensure that future
water demands can be met; these studies include:
- Validation and verification of the existing water use;
- Water
Conservation and Demand Management (including a social survey);
- Hydrology studies.
Three public meetings will be held in the catchment and interested parties
are invited to meet the various study teams to find out more about
the studies. The meetings will end at 12:30 and the teams will be available
for discussions until 16:00. Details of the meetings are provided below.
