Stockholm World Water Week, 21 – 27 August 2011
The next World Water Week will be held in Stockholm from 21 to 27 August 2011.
The theme is “Responding to Global Challenges - Water in an Urbanising World".
The World Water Week is held in the Swedish capital of Stockholm in August every
year since 1991. It provides a full week of meetings and networking around the
thematics of world water management, and is crowned by the presentation of the
Stockholm Water Prize.
The World Water Week in Stockholm is not just a forum for discussion of solutions
to the world's pressing water and related problems. It is also a place to
celebrate the accomplishments of those whose outstanding efforts are already
improving the water environment, bringing water and basic sanitation to people
in need, and increasing our knowledge of water through groundbreaking research.
South Africa’s Participation at the Stockholm World Water Week
South Africa regularly participates in this event dubbed as the ‘leading global
meeting place for the planet’s water issues’.
In the previous years the department was mainly involved in the global
Junior Water Prize competition, but increasingly the participation has broadened
to share and learn from experiences on specific technical matters. These are
related to common challenges in water, food security, sanitation, climate change
and global changes in these fields.
